This is Pane di Pasqua (Italian Easter Bread), It is an enriched brioche-style sweet bread shaped into a circular braid and topped with colorful sprinkles and dried fruits or chocolate chips. The tradition traces back to Northern Italy, particularly the Lombardy region from ancient pre-Christian spring rites celebrating rebirth, soil fertility, and abundance after winter. As Christianity spread across Italy, these agricultural celebrations merged with Christian traditions surrounding Easter. By the 12th century in Italy, the blessing of eggs (benedictio ovorum) during Holy Week had become widespread as well.
